Armsday Roll Recommendations

Contributing Author: Alex R.

#3 – Zarinaea-D

  1. Relentless Tracker – Focused Fire – High Caliber Rounds / Hand Loaded / Smallbore
  2. Hot Swap – Spray and Play – High Caliber Rounds / Speed Reload / Rifled Barrel
  3. Partial Refund – Feeding Frenzy – Single Point Sling / Speed Reload / Rifled Barrel

This is a good PvE-oriented roll for running strikes with. The combination of reload and ammo boosts will have you firing tons of bullets at Minions of the Darkness. Feeding Frenzy and Partial Refund reward every kill, while Speed Reload is just a straight buff to your reload speed. If you want a PvP-centered roll, wait for Counterbalance and range buffs in a later week.

#2 – SUROS DIS-43

  1. Fitted Stock / Casket Mag | Partial Refund | Single Point Sling / Smallbore
  2. Perfect Balance / Appended Magazine | Unflinching | Speed Reload / Smallbore
  3. High Caliber Rounds / Feather Mag | Outlaw | Speed Reload / Reinforced Barrel

There are a few decent rolls available this week for the DIS-43, but this gun has the potential to be something special if you wait. For PvE players, we recommend you wait for a roll with Full Auto to bring back memories of the Vision of Confluence. For PvP, you’ll want something with Hidden Hand and range buffs that make headshots a breeze in the Crucible.

None – SUROS JLB-47

  1. Heavy Payload / Flared Magwell – Who’s Next – Javelin / Quickdraw
  2. Single Point Sling / Speed Reload – Tripod – Perfect Balance / Lightweight
  3. Heavy Payload / Flared Magwell – Cluster Bomb – Perfect Balance / Snapshot

It’s simple: No Grenades and Horseshoes? No Tracking. No thanks. In case you’re new to the party, here’s the deal: these two perks make aiming a breeze. Tracking works well in PvE because you can lock on to targets, and the proximity detonation from Grenades and Horseshoes will turn your Rocket Launcher into something more like a laser cannon. Hopefully Banshee decides to bring some proper launchers next week!

#2 – Aoife Rua-D

  1. Counterbalance – Guerrilla Fighter – Perfect Balance / Snapshot / Braced Frame
  2. Surplus – Spray & Play – Explosive Rounds / Snapshot / Braced Frame
  3. Counterbalance – Who’s Next? – Explosive Rounds / Snapshot

Another perfect PvE roll coming in from Banshee! Surplus is an S-tier PvE perk, granting more ammo from every ammo brick. Spray and Play will allow you to empty clips into bosses at will, granting a reload bonus at the end of your clip. Braced Frame doesn’t seem to actually take a bullet out of your clip while still giving a huge bonus to stability, so overall, you’re left with a super stable Sniper Rifle that buffs your ammo pickups and reloads at breakneck speeds.

I would also consider Roll 1 for PVP, although it’s not perfect. Counterbalance and Perfect Balance give you some very manageable recoil though, and it does have that nice Scout scope.

Any – Uzume RR4

  1. Firefly – Snapshot / Hand Laid Stock – Life Support / Last Resort
  2. Firefly – Snapshot / Casket Mag – Unflinching / Underdog
  3. Triple Tap – Quickdraw / Oiled Frame – Life Support / Last Resort

#3 has the deadly combination of a Faucon low-zoom scope and plenty of ammo, but each roll is pretty good. With ammo being scarce for special weapons in PvE, you’ll want to be getting bullets back as you hammer into an ultra’s precision hitbox, and when the going gets tough, a clutch kill on a smaller enemy can save your health with Life Support. #2 and 3 are decent PvE rolls.

Notable Rolls from Other Weapons

#2 – Thesan FR4

  • Hot swap – accelerated coils / braced frame – Underdog / eye of the storm

This is close to perfection – get it while it’s hot! Some awesome Accuracy bonuses make tracking your target very easy, and you even get *your choice* of faster charge time or perfect Stability. Beautiful!

#1 0r 2 – Cocytus SR4

  1. Life Support – Lightweight/Feather Mag – Third Eye/Danger Close
  2. Triple Tap – Single Point Sling/Casket Mag – Zen Moment/Danger Close

Roll 1 was almost a great PVP roll, but I had to pass on it due to the very weak middle perks. Roll 2, however, is a beautiful DPS roll for this gun. Triple Tap and Casket Mag just pile on the ammo, and you’ll have no problem maxing out your rate of fire with Zen Moment active. If you’re looking for a powerful PVE-focused Scout, consider this one strongly!

#1 – Kumakatok HC4

  • Grenadier – Extended Magazine /Rifled Barrel – Outlaw/Underdog

This is actually a pretty great PVE roll for this gun – faster grenade recharge, more ammo, and fast reloads too – can’t argue with that. It’ll do alright in PVP too, so long as you swap out to Rifled Barrel and keep your engagements at short range.

#2 – Dis-47

  • Perfect Balance / Feather Mag – Hip Fire – Lightweight / Smallbore

Wow, yes please! Some lovely scope options, magnificent Stability from Perfect Balance and Smallbore, and a bit of extra Range, too – gorgeous. Hip Fire is a bit less than ideal, but I do occasionally get stuck in a close range situation where swapping would take too long and I end up backpedaling and spamming shots, so it could be helpful.

#2 – PDX-41

  • High Caliber Rounds/Appended Mag – Zen Moment- Lightweight/Rifled Barrel

A sniper’s worst enemy, this roll hits hard at all ranges thanks to HCR and Rifled Barrel. Zen Moment helps you keep those follow up shots on target, too.

#2 – ARI-41

  • Perfect Balance/Appended Magazine – Speed Reload/Reinforced Barrel – Rodeo

Mid Range and High Stability are the bywords of Auto Rifle success, and you get solid picks for both here. Rodeo and Perfect Balance mitigate the cost of Reinforced Barrel and then some, and this should be a very easy weapon to use as a result.

#2 – ARI-45

  • Perfect Balance/Casket Mag – Lightweight/Reinforced Barrel – Hip Fire

Following on the heels of the ARI-41 is its hard-hitting sibling with far more Range and some helpful close range accuracy as well, coming out of Hipfire. While Perfect Balance more or less just evens out Reinforced Barrel, I still like this one as the base recoil isn’t bad at all.

Next Week’s Orders

Weapon Type Impact Notable Stat
SUROS ARI-41 Auto Rifle Medium AA(72)
Judith-D Hand Cannon High AA (60)
Uffern HC4 Hand Cannon Medium-High Stability (70)
Lyudmila-D Pulse Rifle High Stability (54)
Uzume RR4 Sniper Rifle Low Reload (75)

ARI-41

PVP Rating: A

A mid RoF auto rifle, this archetype has begin to shine a bit with its ease of use and adaptability at both short and mid ranges. Headshots are still very important for competitive time-to-kill, so focus on Range and Stability alike – fortunately, Suros has the best perks for both of those stats, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding a good roll.

Judith-D

PVP Rating: B+

The only legendary hand cannon in its class, this is a First Curse-style weapon, hitting for 95 to the head within its effective range. With a few good damage boosting perks (or Weapons of Light) and some careful aim, you can two-shot people for a really ridiculous TTK. Even that aside, it’s a great weapon for team-shooting and clean-up kills. The slow Rate of Fire means that it can’t stand up directly to most weapons though, so don’t try to stand and fire.

Uffern HC4

PVP Rating: A

The mid-class of Hand Cannons is feeling much more accurate these days, although the damage drop-off is painful. While Bungie says they want Range to be less of a priority, I don’t see that happening any time soon – even with better accuracy, more range means less bloom and damage drop-off starting farther out. The Uffern has always felt very natural and light to me, and I definitely recommend it for HC enthusiasts.

Lydumila-D

PVP Rating: C

A hard-hitting Hakke Pulse Rifle, the Lyudmila never really had its time in the sun. There was a while during the Age of the Pulse when its damage was downright ridiculous, but even then the faster firing pulses were more efficient killers. That is even more true now, with Pulse damage fairly balanced. The Lyudmila makes a fine collector’s piece, but that’s about it.

Uzume-RR4

PVP Rating: C

I’ll say it again: This lowest impact Sniper rifle can’t res-snipe on even a minimum Armor guardian in the Crucible, and low damage means it doesn’t particularly stand out as a tool for DPS either – Eirene can get near as much ammo and hits FAR harder. It does hold the dubious advantage of having very low aim assist however, so if that’s your cup of tea, have at it. With the right perks, it strongly resembles Praedyth’s Revenge, but with less-than-perfect Stability.
